[…] Working with Joel as my instructor enabled me to mainifest my desire to create in a physical way and produce something I never thought I could.

Working with a model in a professional manner, with support from Joel, allowed me to tap into a creative part of myself that I had believed was there but unable to access on my own. […] A rich, fulfilling experience I'll never forget, and skills I will use for a lifetime.

"I sculpt with passion — a passion for humanity and the beauty of the human body. In the sensuous curve of muscle and ligament, I put my emotions, my stories, my life. I transpose the kinetic energy of dance, infusing the clay with the flowing movement and physical sensuality of the body-creating an intense sensory expression of the individual beauty of the human form."

Play With Clay

At a time when beauty is a sanitized commodity, Joel's clay sculptures of the torso take us back to what composes the beauty of the human form.

Perfection does not exist in ideal beauty, but in the sweep of a curve, the taut grace and power of muscle and the majesty of anatomy.

“While I always enjoy learning new art media and techniques, I have never found an artist/teacher with a greater facility for conveying both the skills and the passion necessary to create a truly wonderful work.”

Lynn Welburn, Nanaimo

I love this workshop! Being totally new to sculpting, I was amazed to find I created a piece of ART I could feel proud of and be in love with. And without all my negative internal chatter about not being an artist. Joel is an excellent teacher who is patient, skilled, respectful and full of passion. He took my hand, lead me through every step of the process, teaching me the skills I needed to do the work and making it easy. He assisted me whenever I needed help, while still giving me the space to create my piece of art. What a joy and privilege to sculpt the human body! This workshop is truly a gift for anyone ... you will surprise yourself, believe me!
